Founded in 1995, the firm has developed into the leading contemporary / traditional furniture makers in the North West, carrying out the full range of restoration and conservation work. We regularly work on antique furniture from the 19th, 18th and 17th century, owned by private individuals or the trade. We also undertake private commissions to build museum quality bespoke furniture for the antique trade, interior designers and private homes.
Following the rapid rise in the values of antique furniture in the 1970-80s, a large number of unskilled people set themselves up as antique furniture restorers. Many of these individuals carried out poor and inappropriate work that in many cases resulted in problems worse than the original defect and in some cases irreparable damage. Our team comprises highly skilled and well qualified craftsman with many years experience in the trade. Such is our depth and breadth of experience that we can carry out a very wide range of work to the highest standard. Our general skills include cabinet work, carving, wood-turning, veneering, French polishing and traditional finishing, caning and rush-work. We also undertake the more specialist techniques involved in bergere-work, gilding, marquetry and Boulle.
At Jermy, Goodwin & Co. we are delighted and privileged to be able to design and make some of the most exquisite, contemporary and traditional furniture being made in the world today. Our aim is to produce luxury furniture that is beautifully constructed and proportioned with the finest materials from around the world, and which satisfies our own and more importantly our clients desires. Very few companies can claim appreciation in their product over a period of time. Fine handmade furniture is one of these, its value appreciates, particularly when it is an original design or by a well known maker. All of our furniture is signed traditionally with a stamp. Commissioning a piece of furniture from Jermy, Goodwin & Co. can be an exciting and rewarding experience. We like to involve our clients from the initial design concept right through to the completion of the finished piece.
The Design Brief
Speak to one of our specialist team who will be able to discuss your requirements. From the information, a design brief will be obtained from which we will work to try to design within your budget. Preferably this discussion will take place in person either at your home or in the workshop, but this could be conducted over the telephone or by e-mail if you wish.
Preliminary Job Specification
Following our discussion, we will provide you with a preliminary job specification outlining what we discussed. This also shows terms of payment, an estimate of the cost and also an estimated completion date. Please be aware that you may have to wait from between 2 to 12 months depending on the size and complexity of the piece
The Drawing
If you want to proceed further, a scaled drawing of the piece will be supplied for which there is a nominal fee of £50.00 + VAT. This would be your only commitment should you not wish to proceed beyond this stage. If you decide to place an order this fee would be waived. If the commission is for an Antique Replica, photographs or copies may be supplied for which there will be no charge.
Note: The drawing should reflect the design brief as close as possible, but if the design has to be slightly developed further, no extra cost will be charged. We will always try to be as clear as possible as to what the final piece of furniture will look like and cost.
Final Job Specification
After everything has been verbally agreed, a final job specification will be sent to you outlining what we are proposing to do for you, and if applicable, a revised drawing of the finished piece. On reciept of your order you will recieve a letter confirming the deposit paid, and all materials for the commission will be ordered.
